Cassatt, Mary (1844-1926)
Autumn
1880
Oil on canvas
93 x 65 cm
In this century the love for natural harmony was still in respect. Cassat expresses it in the form of a lady not really looking happy, clad in beautiful colors expressing the autumn season. Does she have a man? Is she looking for one? Not at the moment. The contemplation of the serious of autumn to find the beauty of its colors and meditative melancholia (with the help of a book maybe) dominates.
