The two apostles stand for two of the three elementary modes of material nature: the goodness and the passion. Goodness of knowledge (Pete, left) and passion of action (Paul, right) are the two leading modes that have to dispel the ignorance of the third mode: the slowness of inert matter and attachment. Thus we manage the time of our lives and the time of God under the lead of the representatives of the Lord. location: Hermitage Museum
