Annus ('Year')

From a Bible ± 1300-1310

In 1300 Pope Bonifacius settled for the first Year of Jubilation. The year 2000 was also such a year of celebration . First it had a cycle of 50 years, then it became 33 and under Pius II it was decreed to be held once in a 25 years. Attracting believers to Rome opening the doors that would bless all the pilgrims who passed trough them is not just a catholic practice of belief, although it outwardly seems to be so. The solar year as such is the one and only true attainment of christian timereckoning. When Pope Gregorius settled for it in 1582 with the calendar-reform it was a definite act of science and religion united. It is still now what unifies science and religion. The exact duration of the year was set at the time by the so-called centurion rule that would correct the deviating 4-year leap rhythm. Still this fixed rule also runs out after a few millennia as no fixation can capture the dynamic of God's life in His creation which in fact requires a mind of constant correction. This cross of selfcorrection is held up by Jesus Christ who so mercifully looks at us in this picture with the sun and moon in His hands, reminding us of the divinity of His absolute Truth. True for the sun with Him, with the Moon we have now, seven centuries later and since the reform, forgotten Him, exercising little (with Easter) or no respect at all for the moon at the cost of the worldorder and the oneness with our medieval respect of the Roman Nones and Ides of the Cesarean timereform of the lunar calendar that ours once was.
