 TIME

(for vedic quotes on time choose v)

P

The future starts today, not tomorrow.

Pope John Paul II

If we examine our thoughts, we shall find them always occupied with the past and the future.

Blaise Pascal

'Tijd is toch een verzinsel van de mensen,' zegt hij.
'Nee,' zeg ik, 'het getal van de tijd is een verzinsel van de mensen,
maar de tijd zelf niet
en juist aan de invloed die het getal heeft op mensen,
kun je maar weer eens aflezen hoe belangrijk al die ficties zijn,
hoe ze ons leven bepalen en ons gedrag.'

('Time anyhow is something made up by people,' he says.
'No,' I say, 'the number of the time is something made up by people,
but not the time itself.
And from excactly the influence the number has on people
you can derive how important all these fictions are,
how they determine our life and behavior.')

(Connie Palmen, I.M., blz. 278)

Since we imagine time to be something moving from the left to the right,
accompany except for earlier and later, also lower and higher,
less and more, past and present the clock .
Everybody obeys that as if it is something natural.
I don't think anything is natural.
I regularly practice to think against the clock.)

' Life is endless, not punctuated by nights, days, months and years - for all are one, in the eternal stream'

'Festivals based on the calendar, solar or lunar, celebrating the apparent change of movement or direction of the sun or the moon have been devised, in order to emphasize the need for mind-control (the moon is the presiding deity of the mind) and intelligence-regulation (the sun is the presiding deity of intelligence). Placing disproportionate faith in material wealth and objective pleasures, man has lost the art of tapping the resources of joy within himself, within his own mind and intelligence. One need not wait for Uttarayana to arrive, for resolving upon the process of mind-control and intelligence-control. Every moment is the right moment.'

Divide your day in four times six:
six hours for God,
six for the body,
six hours to serve others
and six for yourself.

Sathya Sai Baba, from Sathya Sivam Sundaram

"Time is no servant of the body; the body is the servant of Time."

Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba

"Time waste is life waste"

Sathya Sai Baba

Time is God. All things happen according to the dictates of Time; Both good and bad depend on Time; Prosperity and poverty likewise depend on Time; Time is the determinant of all things, There is none who is not subject to Time In this entire world; that's the Truth.

Sathya Sai Baba in Sathya Sai Speaks 24

The poet Bhartruhari said: "Salutations to the Lord of Time who sets everything in motion. Time is all-powerful. One should not waste .

Sathya Sai Baba in Sathya Sai Speaks 21

Do not attach too much significance to any particular day. Every day is Guru-vaar, not Thursday alone, Every second is a new start and has to be celebrated as an opportunity. The New Year, beginning on a particular day, is just a convention, a creation of man's limiting mind, separating God's Infinity into tiny sections.

Sathya Sai Baba in Sathyam Sivam Sundaram-wouded wings

There is no age like the Kali Age, none at all.
Where by mere meditation on the name of the Lord,
the Supreme Goal is realized, Oh Blessed One!
Even a multi-millionaire has to be content,
with ordinary raiment and food.
He cannot live on a diet of gold.
When Time is unpropitious, a stick may turn into a snake,
while, when it is favorable, dust may turn gold.

The wheel of Time can make a scholar a dumb animal,
and a dumb man can become a saint,
and a wealthy man may become a plaything of the
Goddess of Poverty at one time.
Whatever your prayers, you cannot get
what you are not destined to get.

Don't cherish, Oh young man, any desires.
Lead instead a noble life with intelligence.
What more can I tell you,
the good people assembled here?

Sathya Sai Baba during a lecture 3 March 1992
on "Purify the world by Sankirthana"

Want of Time.....

Men may have super abundance of food, clothing and housing; but their hearts may be dry and their spirits glooming. Sense-control, self-confidence, contentment, absense of hatred and greed are far more precious possessions than land, money or houses. No effort is made today to give lessons of this discipline in the educational institutions. It is wrong to lay the blame on want of time. You are the obstructor, not the time. The monkey that cannot pull out its clencled fist from the narrow neck of the pot blames the pot or the maker of the pot. But if only it releases the hold on the peanuts it has caught in that fist, it can easily take its hand out. The fault lies in itself. So too, man's greed is the reason for this want of time. That is why I often refer to it as the monkey mind --

'Het is maar goed, dat u dit niet allemaal hoeft mee te maken, mompelde hij.
'Een Bommel heeft de toekomst, zei u altijd, en daar tracht ik mij aan te houden,
want het heden heeft een heer weinig te bieden.
De kranten staan vol narigheid;

('Good that you don't have to experience all of this, he murmured.
'A Bommel has the future, you always said, and that is what I try to,
for the present has little to offer me.
The papers are full of trouble,
everything is raw and gross and the level of the masses is sinking more and more.
It is the hope for the furure only that keeps me going.')
